Question beginning beekeepers generally ask:
What is the first thing I need to have before I begin keeping bees?
Before you sink your life savings into a yard full of bee boxes, a fancy suit, and a shiny new smoker – you should seek out a mentor. Find someone who will let you see the bees up close. Learn everything you can about keeping bees. Be sure that you are comfortable handling bees and that you aren’t allergic to bee stings.
Wouldn’t you hate to invest $2000 on Five Hives only to find that you are deathly allergic to bees? Most bees are very gentle and since they can only sting once, they usually won’t.
The most important tool to have is Knowledge.
My most important piece of advice to any new beekeeper (like myself) is to learn all that you can before you invest your time and money.
